Mountain Top Media, LLC, a locally owned company, has completed its acquisition of the business operations of East Kentucky Broadcasting and East Kentucky Radio Network (EKB.) The former President of EKB, Cindy May Johnson, is the Managing Member of Mountain Top Media, LLC and serves as President/General Manager of the company’s fourteen radio stations, cable TV station, multiple digital properties, and other business services. The original company began in 1949 with a single radio station in Pikeville, Kentucky, and now serves a large portion of central Appalachia, including eastern Kentucky and several counties in West Virginia and Virginia.
“Mountain Top Media is here to deliver the best local information, as well as entertain our audience and provide advertising and marketing opportunities to help grow local businesses. We focus on digital delivery in addition to traditional radio and television, so our content can also be experienced on social media, mobile apps, and websites,” said Johnson. “Our team is invested in this area and is excited to help grow the local economy.”
The new company has retained or brought back several well-known long time former EKB staffers, as well as added some new recruits. “We’re growing this business, and that means good things for our community. There’s a great professional broadcasting tradition already in place; we’ll be improving and building on it as we go,” said Johnson.
